No other Name!

Glory to God!

We had a full house on Sunday as we celebrated the gift of the Holy Spirit at Pentecost. After another powerful time of worship we dedicated two of our children and blessed their parents. Ngozi had made another stunning cake for Lainey and Hannah Marie that she based on the children's book, "Guess how much I love you!" by Sam McBratney and Anita Jeram.

As part of celebrating Pentecost, Ulli had the idea of getting different people to read the account of the outpouring of the Holy Spirit in Acts 2 in their own language and at the same time. It was quite an amazing experience to hear the different languages simultaneously and it gave us an idea of what it must have been like when the disciples all spoke in various languages at the same time at Pentecost.

Richard then share a message entitled, "No other Name" in which we looked at what happened after Pentecost in Acts 2 - 4. After Peter and John had healed a cripple in the name of Jesus, they were brought before the religious leaders to explain their actions. In his subsequent sermon, Peter, filled with the Holy Spirit, made it known that the name of Jesus is powerful, that Jesus is the Cornerstone, that the name of Jesus is exclusive, unique, a gift and necessary to be saved (see Acts 4:8-22). Richard then explained that the name of Jesus to each one of us will only be as powerful as the revelation of Christ is to us (see Acts 4:13; Mt 16:13-19). In response to the message, words of knowledge and prophecy were given and many came forward for prayer! We praise God for the power of the Gospel and the gift of the Holy Spirit! Hallelujah!

Living by Faith

Glory to God!

These past weeks the Lord has been speaking to us about the unity of the Spirit and His desire for us to live in His fulness. Two weeks ago Tobias shared a message entitled, "One body, one language," in which he showed us that God's purpose has always been to unite mankind to Himself and one another to be His dwelling place. Comparing the account of the building of the tower of Babel in Genesis 11:1-9 and the outpouring of the Holy Spirit at Pentecost in Acts 2:1-13, we saw the power of unity as God intended it, for His glory and purposes in eternity. In response to God's Word we split up into groups to pray in the Spirit and pray for one another.

On Sunday, after another powerful time of worship, we had the privilege of having Kay Lorentz with us who gave us an update on their ministry and family whom we support as a church. It is humbling and sobering to hear the testimony of what Kay and Holger are doing in Cape Town, South Africa and it was important for us to bless Kay and their ministries, Resilient Kids SA and Mercy Aids. We praise God for Kay and Holger who demonstrate true faith in laying down their lives for the needy to give them a voice, dignity, hope and a future!

Richard then shared a message entitled, "Reflections on faith," in which he showed us some important principles about faith that will help us individually and corporately to experience a greater measure of God's fulness in and through our lives. Comparing a torch with a mirror, Richard showed us that we must make a shift from our being the origin to God being the Origin in our lives (Rev 3:14). With God as the Origin of all things in our lives, we saw that faith is not something we produce but a response to God and what He has completed in Christ. Richard showed us that faith is:

Receiving what God freely gives (Mk 10:15; Jn 1:12,13; Eph 1:3)
Resting from human effort and resting in God's finished work (Heb 4:9-11)
Remaining in Christ and living in Him (Jn 15; Col 2:6)

In response to God's Word to us we split up into groups and prayed for one another, receiving, resting and remaining in God's presence. It was a very powerful time indeed and it was wonderful to experience the ministry of the Holy Spirit as we ceased from every human effort and made space for Him to do His work among us. Hallelujah!

The Fruit of Pentecost

Our dear friend, mentor and spiritual father, Richard Maybery passed away on Tuesday morning after suffering from cerebral malaria. We are all still in shock at his sudden death and miss him very much. Richard has played a significant role in our lives and in the establishing of Kingdom Life Frankfurt. On Sunday we paid tribute to this wonderful man of God and spent time remembering his life and the things we learned from him. Richard Morschel showed us the characteristics of the work of the Holy Spirit and shared how Richard Maybery bore the fruit of Pentecost in his life. You can listen to the message here.
Looking at Acts 2 we noted the following evidence of the Holy Spirit's work:

Repentance
The Holy Spirit convicts of sin and reveals the deep things of God which move the believer to repent of old attitudes, thoughts and behaviour in order to live in the revelation of God.

Devotion
Those who are filled with the Spirit of God live their lives devoted to God, His Word and His people.

Naturally Supernatural
People who are filled with the Spirit live their everyday lives supernaturally in the consciousness of God's presence.
Being spiritual is not put on but lived naturally out of constant communion with the Holy Spirit.

Selflessness
People who are filled with the Holy Spirit are selfless and are willing to share their lives with others.

Love
Those who are filled with the Spirit have compassion for the lost and the broken and a genuine love for others.

Fear of God
The Holy Spirit makes God's presence real to the believer so that he or she lives in the awareness of God's awesome presence.
Those who are filled with the Spirit do not become familiar with God's presence and work but live in awe of Him and what He does.

Humility
People who are filled with the Spirit walk in dependence upon Him.

Favour
Those who are filled with the Spirit enjoy the favour of God and of people.

Boldness
People who are filled with Spirit become more concerned with what God desires than with what people think about them.

Perseverance
Those who are filled with the Holy Spirit know how to keep on keeping on, out of their dependency on God, despite opposition, disappointment and negative circumstances.

We praise God for the testimony of Richard Maybery's life that inspires us to seek God's face and to be obedient to His call. What Richard has imparted to our lives will remain as lasting fruit for the glory of Abba, Father. We will miss Richard very much but God will make sure that His purpose for Richard's life will be fulfilled in his and our own generation. We are grateful to be part of that fulfillment.

"The Holy Spirit is the most important person on earth." Richard Maybery

The Unseen Real

Glory to God!

After we spent time in fellowship with the Lord yesterday, worshipping Him and participating in the Lord's Table through communion, the Lord spoke to us about expecting, experiencing and showing evidence in our lives of the Realm Beyond. The Realm Beyong is the unseen real and is the realm of God that is beyond the boundary of the created. The writers of the New Testament speak of that which is beyond the boundary (Greek: Huperballo) to describe the things of the Spirit or the Kingdom of God. This is what the Lord showed us:

Expectation

God wants us to expect the realm beyond that every believer can see and enter into. The realm beyond is invisible (John 3:4-8); glorious (2 Cor. 3:7-11) and possible (Eph. 3:20,21).

Experience

God wants us to experience the realm beyond. Those who experience the realm beyond are filled with love that is beyond knowledge (Eph. 3:16-19); peace that is beyond understanding (Phil. 4:5-7); and joy that is beyond expression (1 Peter 1:8,9).

Evidence

Those who live from the realm beyond demonstrate faith in the unseen real (Heb. 11:1); unconditional love (Acts 2:42-47); and overflowing hope (Rom.15:13; Heb. 11:24-27).

In response to God's word to us we repented of limiting God and asked Him to fill us afresh with His Spirit. Glory to God!
