Living by Faith

Glory to God!

These past weeks the Lord has been speaking to us about the unity of the Spirit and His desire for us to live in His fulness. Two weeks ago Tobias shared a message entitled, "One body, one language," in which he showed us that God's purpose has always been to unite mankind to Himself and one another to be His dwelling place. Comparing the account of the building of the tower of Babel in Genesis 11:1-9 and the outpouring of the Holy Spirit at Pentecost in Acts 2:1-13, we saw the power of unity as God intended it, for His glory and purposes in eternity. In response to God's Word we split up into groups to pray in the Spirit and pray for one another.

On Sunday, after another powerful time of worship, we had the privilege of having Kay Lorentz with us who gave us an update on their ministry and family whom we support as a church. It is humbling and sobering to hear the testimony of what Kay and Holger are doing in Cape Town, South Africa and it was important for us to bless Kay and their ministries, Resilient Kids SA and Mercy Aids. We praise God for Kay and Holger who demonstrate true faith in laying down their lives for the needy to give them a voice, dignity, hope and a future!

Richard then shared a message entitled, "Reflections on faith," in which he showed us some important principles about faith that will help us individually and corporately to experience a greater measure of God's fulness in and through our lives. Comparing a torch with a mirror, Richard showed us that we must make a shift from our being the origin to God being the Origin in our lives (Rev 3:14). With God as the Origin of all things in our lives, we saw that faith is not something we produce but a response to God and what He has completed in Christ. Richard showed us that faith is:

Receiving what God freely gives (Mk 10:15; Jn 1:12,13; Eph 1:3)
Resting from human effort and resting in God's finished work (Heb 4:9-11)
Remaining in Christ and living in Him (Jn 15; Col 2:6)

In response to God's Word to us we split up into groups and prayed for one another, receiving, resting and remaining in God's presence. It was a very powerful time indeed and it was wonderful to experience the ministry of the Holy Spirit as we ceased from every human effort and made space for Him to do His work among us. Hallelujah!
