Nehemiah

Glory to God!

Yesterday was the last day of our 21 days of prayer and fasting. We spent the last 3 weeks going without to spend more focused time on God as we reached up, reached in and reached out in prayer. To help us on our journey, we were inspired, challenged and encouraged with a daily devotional from the Book of Nehemiah which you can find here.

It is difficult to describe what God was doing yesterday, starting already during our pre-meeting prayer and continuing throughout the service. The Holy Spirit gripped our hearts. Our prayer time was real, raw and passionate as many gathered before the meeting and the Holy Spirit took over. In the same spirit of abandon, we worshipped the Lord together as He filled the room with His presence and power. It was glorious.

Richard then shared a message entitled, "Principles of Revival for Transformation" in which we looked at the life of Nehemiah and noted the following:
  1. It takes one person of faith to inspire a nation to bring about revival.
  2. Prayer, restoration, unity, reverence for God and His word and obedience lead to revival.
  3. Revival must be sustained for lasting transformation to happen or people return to old patterns of behaviour.
Richard showed us that just as Nehemiah was gripped by a problem, and took hold of God's prophetic revelation and therefore understood God's purpose for his life, so the believer will only pursue God's promises if s/he is truly affected by a problem (see Nehemiah 1:1-11; Ps 29:18; Hab 2:2).

Without a problem and a promise, we will lack purpose!

Looking at the account of Nehemiah, we saw how he was motivated by the problem of his people who were scattered and living in shame and his city, the walls of which were broken and its gates burned down. Consequently, Nehemiah motivated his people to work as one man to rebuild the walls of Jerusalem with the ultimate goal of bringing restoration to the whole nation. We saw how everyone got involved with the short term goal of restoring the walls and the gates that led to the people coming together in unity that would result in the revival that would lead to transformation of a city and a nation! Hallelujah!
Richard then shared a prophetic revelation for Kingdom Life in which the Lord revealed the problem with the Church, His desire for us as His people and His promise to us if we pursue His purposes. The Holy Spirit moved us once again and we responded to God's Word in prayer, repentance and worship as we asked God to break our hearts with what breaks His heart, for the faith to take hold of His promises and the grace to persevere in rebuilding the walls that will lead to revival so that our lives, our church, the Church, our city, our nation and the nations will be transformed.

We praise God for what He did yesterday and what He is setting us up for this year. Hallelujah!

A call to worship

Glory to God!

For the past two weeks, the Lord has been speaking to us about worship. In both his messages entitled, God loves you, God knows you, God made you and Reclaiming God's presence, Alexander spoke to us about the Father's search for true worshippers. Looking at the account of Abraham and Isaac on the mountain in the region of Moriah (Genesis 22:1-14), we noted how Abraham was a true worshipper in that he waited on the Lord and was available to Him; he obeyed the Lord as an act of worship; he trusted in his relationship to his covenant God; the Lamb was at the centre and God's voice was more present to Abraham than his immediate circumstances.

Continuing the theme of worship, Alexander spoke to us on Sunday about honouring God's presence, not only on a Sunday but in our everyday lives. Looking at 1 Chronicles 13:3-14 we noted the importance of not being familiar with God's presence but being careful to honour His presence with reverence and fear. The account of reclaiming the Ark of God is a vivid message to the Church to reclaim and honour God's presence; to not try to "carry" the presence of God with man-made structures; to take up our responsibility as priests to host God's presence in unity; to keep in step with the Spirit and to prepare a habitation for God's abiding presence in our lives.

The Lord is calling His people to radical worship that requires a response to God's presence with our entire lives. We praise God that He has done everything for us to be reconciled to Him so that we can be the worshippers He seeks and the habitation of His presence. Hallelujah!

Breaking Through Together

 freedigitalphotos.net

Glory to God!

As we continue to pray and fast for breakthrough, the Lord is showing us what spiritual breakthrough really looks like. On Sunday, Frances Morschel spoke to us about The Journey to Breakthrough which you can listen to here. This is what the Lord showed us:

Breakthrough is more than an event or a blessing. Spiritual breakthrough is when the reality of the Kingdom of God breaks through into our reality and the two become one. God wants us to live in and from the reality of His Kingdom. Breakthrough is a journey that can be broken down into the following stages:

Wake Up!

The journey to breakthrough begins with the realisation that one's present condition that is not in line with the truth of God does not need to remain that way (Is 52:1,2). At this stage we begin to have revelation of who God is, what He has done for us and our identity in Christ. We begin to grasp the possibilities of God according to the reality of His Kingdom.

Collision

The second stage of the journey happens when the truth of the Kingdom of God and of who we really are in Christ causes us to become dissatisfied with our condition. The two realities are in conflict with one another so that we become frustrated, confused, and even angry because on the one hand we see what God says but on the other hand our experience tells us the opposite.

Choice

The third stage is the point of decision. We must choose which reality we will allow to influence our lives. We can recognise the decision we have made based on what our hearts and minds focus on. Trusting what God has said builds hope in the life of the believer. Just as Abraham faced the reality of his and Sarah's unfruitfulness in the natural but chose to believe God and hope in the promise, so we must choose to hope in God and His promises to us, despite the circumstances (Rom 4:18-22). Worldly hope wishes that things could be different but spiritual hope knows that things can be different!

Establish

Spiritual hope is based on the reality of the Kingdom of God, on who God is and on what God has done for us. At this fourth stage, we need to establish this hope so that the Kingdom of God becomes an even greater reality and even greater influence in our lives by filling our hearts and minds with "things above" (Col 3:1). It is out of this hope that faith is strengthened (Rom 4:20; Heb 11:1).

Conviction

The fifth stage on the journey to breakthrough is a place of rest, being fully convinced of the reality of the Kingdom. Striving, frustration and struggling have ceased. This is what true faith looks like (Mk 11:24). It is the place of rest in the full assurance that we have already received what God has promised us.

Perseverance

The sixth stage of this journey is about persevering in the assurance of the reality of God's truth. True faith perseveres regardless of how long it takes for the promise to be fulfilled. It is the fundamental trust in God's goodness and faithfulness that helps us to continue in the assurance of the fulfillment of the promise even beyond our lives (Heb 11:13)!

Fulfillment

The final stage of the journey to breathrough is in God's hands. He is the One who will do what He has promised in His time.

Looking at the example of Jehoshaphat and the people of God and how they trusted God and went on the journey to breakthrough and saw God move on their behalf as they faced their enemy in full assurance of God's victory, we noted how the whole nation moved together on the journey to breakthrough (2 Chr 20:2-24).

God is encouraging us to move together on this journey to breakthrough. We recognise that each of us is at a different stage of this exciting journey and that we need to encourage one another at whatever stage we may find ourselves at so that we continue together until the reality of the Kingdom breaks through completely into all of our lives. Hallelujah!

KLF Vision Day

Glory to God!

These are exciting times! The Lord has given us a wonderful vision for 2010 and yesterday He showed us what a vision is; what one does with a God-given vision; what God's vision is for KLF and how we are to respond to His vision for us. This is what He showed us:

What is a vision?

  • A vision is a God-given promise that is a revelation of His heart.
  • To truly understand God's vision for His people, believers must have a revelation of God's heart - not only understanding what God wants to do but also why He wants to do it!
  • God's Word to us is always a revelation of His motivation.
  • Jesus is the revelation of the Father's love so that man would know God's heart and ways and not only His works. John 3:16; Heb. 3:9,10

What does one do with a God-given vision?

  1. God's people take hold of the vision. Joshua 1:1-5; Heb. 12:2; Phil. 3:12
  2. God's people count the cost and the conditions for the vision to be fulfilled. Joshua 1:6-9
  3. God's people prepare themselves. Joshua 1:10,11
  4. God's people devote themselves. Joshua 1:12-18
  5. God's people scout the land and face the facts. Joshua 2:1; Rom. 4:19,20
  6. God's people cross over with God's presence. Joshua 3:1-4
  7. God's people watch God's vision unfold. Joshua 6:15,16,20

What is God's vision for KLF this year?

  • Isaiah 61 and Acts 2:42-47. Rebuild. Restore. Renew.
  • God wants to make us whole to bring wholeness to others for His glory.
  • Isaiah 61:3 is the vision: To be "a planting of the Lord for the display of His splendour."
  • For the vision to be fulfilled, God has given us Acts 2:42-47 so that as He rebuilds, restores and renews us, we become rebuilders, restorers and renewers as we devote ourselves to the Word, fellowship, communion, prayer and the sharing of our lives with one another.

Rebuild. Restore. Renew.

How are we to respond to God's vision for us?

  1. We need to take hold of it
  2. We need to count the cost
  3. We need to get ready
  4. We need to devote ourselves
  5. We need to scout the land
  6. We need to cross over
  7. We will see the vision unfold

We praise God for His awesome Word to us that is the vision He has for us this year. As we apply God's Word to us we will see the vision realised! Hallelujah! Since God is going to rebuild, restore and renew us individually and corporately we will be focusing on "Body building" by offering new Life Groups for people to connect with one another as well as seminars and events that will help us grow together for God's purposes and glory.

This Saturday KLF's worship team will be supporting another exciting Arise Shine meeting with Suzette Hattingh and Gayle Claxton of Voice in the City.

Quote of the week:

"They will be called oaks of righteousness, a planting of the Lord for the display of his splendour." Isaiah 61:3
