The Glory of Christ!

Glory to God!

As a church, we are on a journey of repentance - 180 days of prayer for 180° reversal! During these days of prayer and reflection, God has recently been speaking to us about the nature and glory of the Church. With the daily devotionals that Richard is writing and what is being shared on a Sunday, the Lord is bringing reversal in our thinking as we align ourselves to God's Word and revelation. We are being encouraged, challenged and stretched as God transforms us with His presence, truth and power! Hallelujah!

A couple of Sundays ago, Richard shared a message entitled, "Is your church on TripAdvisor?" In his sermon, Richard challenged us to see whether we approach Church like a restaurant or whether we understand God's view of the Church. As he compared "McChurch" to the true Church, Richard showed us that the Church should not be treated like a restaurant but as God has birthed her and purposed her in Christ. Looking at the analogies used in the Bible to describe the Church, such as branches in the Vine (John 15), a building whose architect is God (1 Cor 3; Eph 2:21,22; Heb 3:1-6; 1 Pet 2:4,5), the human body (1 Cor 12:12-27) and a nation that belongs to God (1 Pet 2:9,10), we learned that each have the following in common: Dependance on Christ, connection, equality, significant members, and purpose. The answer to the question whether our church is on TripAdvisor was therefore answered with a clear, "No!" as we are not a McChurch that is evaluated according to what customers think but we are the glory of Christ, the revelation of Jesus to the world!

On Saturday we had a brilliant time together at the Naturfreundehaus in Niederrad. We got together for a fun afternoon and evening of games, coffee and cake, fellowship, grilling, open stage, face painting, praise and worship and more; simply enjoying each other and getting to know each other better. We were even joined by local refugee kids who felt quite at home with us and played with the other children and even joined us during praise and worship. We loved the location and are sure to meet there again in the Summer next year! Thanks to all who organised and contributed toward the wonderful time we had together!

Having celebrated their 30th wedding anniversary last week, Richard spoke to us on Sunday about the relationship and profound connection between marriage and the Church. In his sermon entitled, "Strong marriage, strong church!" Richard gave us four keys to a strong marriage and thus to a strong church as we looked at Ephesians 5:21-33. Based on their own experience as a couple, Richard shared what he and Frances have learned over the years that has helped them to have a good marriage. The four keys are Commitment, that is rooted in living in covenant, Consideration, Communication and Compassion. All four are essential for a strong marriage and a strong church! We had a lot of fun exploring each key and learning how important each key is for marriage and for the Church to reflect Christ.

Knowing God

Glory to God!

The apostle Paul's prayer for the Church is that she would receive spiritual revelation so that she would grow in her knowledge of God (Eph 1:17). It is God's will that we should grow in our knowledge of Him and these past 2 weeks the Lord has been encouraging us to encounter Him, experience Him and overflow with Him.

In his message entitled, "I want you to know me," Richard shared how God's desire is that we grow in our knowledge of Him so that we grasp and experience His pleasure (Eph 1:3-9; Mk 1:11; 2 Pet 1:3); our union with Him (Jn 14:9-14, 20); His glory, holiness and mercy (Is 6:1-8); and God's will for our lives (Col 1:9-13; Eph 4:17-24; 2 Pet 1:3). It is as we receive spiritual revelation of God that we can grow in our knowledge of Him and make Him known. Hallelujah!

On Sunday, Frances spoke to us about the essence of Christianity. In her message entitled, "A greater love," we looked at the apostle Paul's prayer for the Church in Ephesians 3:16-19 where he prays that the believers be rooted and established in God's love (Eph 3:17), grasp the magnitude of God's love (Eph 3:18) and be filled with the fullness of God (Eph 3:19).

Frances showed us how important it is to be rooted and established in Christ's love in order to grasp the extent of God's love so that we are filled to the measure of all the fullness of God! We saw how being rooted and established in Christ's love means trusting in His unconditional love for us and being secure in that love despite one's circumstances. It is in God's love that we find acceptance, security and significance despite what we go through in our lives. We then looked at the nature of God's love and noted that His love is merciful (1 Pet 4:8; Pr 10:12; Rom 5:8), sacrificial (Jn 3:16; Jn 15:13) and compassionate (Jn 3:17). Frances showed us that the believer should be motivated by Christ's love (2 Cor 5:14) instead of fear, selfish ambition, need or duty and that it is only as the believer is filled with God's love through revelation, faith and giving that s/he will overflow with Christ's love.

We praise God for revealing Himself to us and helping us grow in our knowledge of Him so that we can make Him known.

The Jonah Project

Glory to God!

As the Lord continues to reveal heaven's priorities to us, He is establishing the values He wants us to have. On Sunday, Richard shared a message entitled "The Jonah Project," in which we looked at the story of Jonah and what it reveals concerning God's values and how we need to respond them. Richard showed us that in a society where values are subjective and relative, God wants us to be concerned with what He is concerned about - His values must become our values (Phil 2:21). Just as Jonah tried to run away from God's commission and went through a process of leaving his comfort, surrendering his life to God, dying to self and then devoting himself to God and obeying Him, so the believer is challenged to adopt God's values and respond to them in obedience. More specifically, God revealed His heart for the lost in our city and is calling us to be faithful "as those approved of God to be entrusted with the Gospel" (1 Thess 2:4) so that Frankfurt will be saved. In response to God's Word to us, we have begun The Jonah Project - a journey for us to develop God's heart for the lost and to save our city.  It is exciting to realise that when the Church adopts God's values, she will be united in spirit and purpose to further God's Kingdom. Hallelujah!

Orphans and Sonship

Glory to God!

It was a great joy and encouragement to have the Lorentz family with us two weekends ago. Holger and Kay with their 3 children, Moriah-Jane, Daniel and Jessica live in Cape Town, South Africa and serve as missionaries to the many HIV infected and affected children in the area. They live the Kingdom Life, revealing the Father's heart to many orphans and even making some of them part of their family. They live selfless lives providing children with healing, hope, love and security. They are the founders and cofounders of Resilient Kids and MercyAids. You can find our more about the Lorentz family and their ministry here. Kay shared a moving and powerful message, entitled, "Take Heart!", on how God wants us to do works of righteousness, not for salvation but because we have been saved and are filled with the Spirit of the Righteous One! Kay showed us how God wants us to reveal His Kingdom on earth as we reveal the love and compassion of Christ to others, particularly orphans (James 1:27). Kay challenged us to examine our lives to see whether we just do for God or whether we are doing the works of righteousness He has particularly called us to do (Rev 22:12). In her gentle, pastoral manner, Kay showed us that the very area of hurt and pain that God ministers to us and heals us may well be the area of minisry He has called us to! KLF is privileged to support this wonderful family and we are excited to have Moriah-Jane with us for a 7-month internship from next month.

On the 9th of January KLF began a 21-day journey of spiritual renewal, seeking God individually and corporately as we spend time fasting, praying and studying God's Word. Every day we have had special meetings to gather the church in prayer, Bible study and worship. On Friday we were part of an exciting joint prayer meeting with various churches in our area where people came together to worship and pray. It was a very powerful evening as the churches united with one spirit and one purpose to see God move in the areas of intercession.

The fruit of KLF's spiritual zeal could already be experienced after only one week. Sunday's meeting was buzzing with excitement and anticipation. Richard shared a message on "The Essence of Sonship" in which he showed us from Matthew 3:16-4:11 how the enemy tries to undermine the child of God's identity by tempting him or her to be satisfied by things of this world rather than God; to test God rather than trust Him and to worship created things rather than the Creator Himself. We saw that sons of God are satisfied in God (Ps 63:1-5), sons of God trust God (Ps 63:6-8) and sons of God worship and serve God alone. We praise God for the incredible love He has lavished upon us that we should be called and are children of God! Hallelujah!
