Easter Celebration

Glory to God!

Yesterday we celebrated the Good News of Christ's death and resurrection. As we reflected on the origin of our Easter celebration, we saw how God desires that His people remember what He has done for them. Just as God commanded the Israelites to commemorate their deliverence from Egypt by celebrating Passover, so Christ commanded His followers to remember what He did for them whenever they have Communion together. Therefore it is important that Christians remember their God and what He has done for them. When we remember Jesus,

  1. We PROCLAIM His victory over sin and death. 1 Cor. 11:23-26
  2. We PASS ON the truth of what Christ has done for us. Psalm 78:1-8
  3. We will PERSEVERE through trials and not grow weary and lose heart. Heb. 12:1-4
  4. We PARTICIPATE in His body and blood. 1 Cor. 10:16; Rom. 6:1-10
  5. We will be PRODUCTIVE in our faith. 2 Peter 1:3-9
  • God wants us to remember Him so that we do not become familiar with Him. Deut. 8:17,18
  • God wants us to remember Him so that we do not become rebellious and proud. Psalm 78; Deut. 8:11-14

The Lord then spoke to us about the two-fold truth of Christ's death and resurrection. Christ was given over to death on the cross for our sins AND was raised to life for our justification (Rom. 4:25). The Lord showed us that many Christians stay at the cross but do not move into resurrection life because they still try and earn friendship with God in their own strength. The glorious truth, however, is that God has reconciled us to be friends of God and no longer enemies of God. The Lord wants His children to walk in the freedom of Sonship as friends of God to be effective ambassadors of His Kingdom!

Quote of the week:

"God demonstrates his own love for us in this: While we were still sinners, Christ died for us. Since we have now been justified by his blood, how much more shall we be saved from God's wrath through him! For if, when we were God's enemies, we were reconciled to him through the death of his Son, how much more, having been reconciled, shall we be saved through his life! Not only is this so, but we also rejoice in God through our Lord Jesus Christ, through whom we have now received reconciliation." Romans 5:8-11
